The Pharmaceutics and Compounding Laboratory
Triturations and Aliquots

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this exercise, you should be able to:

  • Define trituration and geometric dilution.
  • Demonstrate techniques of geometric dilution (e.g., preparation of powder triturations) and serial dilution (e.g., preparation of liquid aliquots).
  • Describe the techniques and perform the calculations for obtaining a quantity of a substance less than the L.W.Q. for a solid dosage form (i.e. trituration method), and a liquid dosage form (i.e. liquid aliquot method).
